Why am I doing this?!?
Have you ever asked yourself that question? Spoiler alert! I know you have, because you’re a human.
For some of you, it was about starting a new business.
For others, it was going back to school.
And still others, in the throes of raising toddlers, I know you’ve asked, “Why didn’t we just get a dog?!?”
I see you! (and your secrets are safe with me)
On this delightful June day, there’s nothing I’d rather be doing than raising chicken for you!
There are days I’ve asked this question about raising chickens.
When I’m slinging 50 pound feed bags in 90 degree heat.
Or moving the pens in pouring rain.
Or when my eyes are crossed on a snowy day in January trying to figure out our production calendar, chick arrival dates, butcher dates, and pick-up party dates.
But on the days I ask this question, the answers come to me quickly, and in a reassuring wave.
I raise chickens, and raise them the way I do …
Because it’s what I want to eat.
Because it’s what I want to feed my family.
Because I can feel the way it nourishes my body.
Because I think it’s my secret weapon for not getting sick in the winter.
Because I can see how happy the birds are, living as Mother Nature intended, with grass and bugs and worms and sunshine.
Because I can see the way these farming practices nourish the soil.
Because I want to steward the land and legacy that started here with my great, great grandparents
Because I like supporting my local feed store and hardware store. (I see them so often, they’re like family!)
Because I like selling these chickens to you … my friends and neighbors.
And because I never get tired of hearing you all rave about how ridiculously delicious our chickens are!
We’ll be opening online sales next week! So watch your email inbox.
